General Statement of Duties

The Vice President will establish and lead the water resources sector of Thatcher Engineering, Inc (TEI). He/She will grow the water resources sector of the firm by building a strong industry reputation and a cohesive regional consulting practice. He/She will be responsible for the delivery of effective water resources services to clients and for leading other technical professionals to excel.

He/She will make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have a far-reaching impact on engineering and related activities of the firm. He/She will use a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding engineering programs and activities of outstanding novelty and importance. He/She will be responsible for the administrative and technical management of projects and for the supervision of all activities related to contract administration and scheduling. He/She will also be responsible for client presentations and interaction, preparation of design and construction documents and specification writing.

He/She works under the general direction of the President.

Supervision and Leadership Authority Exercised

He/She supervises Water Resources Engineers.

Responsibilities

A. Effectively communicate with clients, TEI personnel and others.

B. Effectively manage client relationships and expectations.

C. Assist in improving and implementing the strategic business plan for TEI.

D. Develop and implement strategies to grow the water resources sector, leading ultimately to a dominant water resources engineering market share, and coordinate with other sector vice presidents to use the firm’s resources to implement the strategies.

E. Develop and manage financial and human resources of the water resources engineering sector.

F. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies and other civic groups.

Travel from TEI office (Minneapolis, Minnesota)

Requires some travel, typically to attend meetings at client locations.

Qualifications

A. Education

1. BS Engineering degree required. Masters Degree preferred.

B. Experience

1. Twenty (20) to Twenty-Five (25) years of relevant experience working on progressively larger multi-disciplinary projects with increased responsibility and leadership.

2. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to network in social situations and present and educate in larger group setting.

3. Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis and data management relating to water resource engineering.

4. Professional Engineer license required (Minnesota).

6. Possess effective verbal and written communication skills, strong technical skills, good work habits, and a team-orientated approach.

7. Work successfully with TEI staff, including engineers, technicians, and administrative staff.

8. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for construction.

9. Knowledge of Federal and State laws, municipal ordinances and regulatory requirements.

10. Ability to develop, propose and administer an annual budget.

11. Excellent computer skills with MS Office products.

D. Other Requirements

1. A valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
