Park Improvements
City of Oakdale, Minnesota

Challenge:

Richard Walton Park is a large active recreational area located in the City of Oakdale. The park contains ball fields, playground equipment, a pavilion with kitchen facilities, and other recreational amenities. In 2007 the city approved plans to make improvements to the layout of the park including a new skate park, hockey rink and warming house.

Thatcher Engineering teamed with Brauer and Associates, Ltd. to provide a plan to the City that improved the layout of the existing park facilities and added a skate park, hockey rink and warming house. Thatcher Engineering’s role in the project was realigning the existing utility lines within the park area to accommodate the revised layout and new facilities and to secure and manage stormwater permits.

Solution:

Using the park layout prepared by Brauer and Associates, Ltd., Thatcher Engineering prepared utility plans to relocate the existing utilities so they would not conflict with the park facilities. Watermain was extended to the new hockey rink so the area could be flooded in the winter time. Sanitary sewer was realigned and a service line was extended to the new warming house. Storm sewer lines were also realigned and additional catch basins added to improve stormwater drainage throughout the park.
